The Italian automaker Ferrari has announced a track-only supercar named FXX K, which is based on the LaFerrari. A functional prototype of this car is all set to be revealed this weekend during Finali Mondiali Ferrari at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.
The Ferrari FXX K derives its drivetrain from the LaFerrari, which is based on a 6.3 liter F140 V12 engine paired with an electric motor. However, the combined output is increased from 950 to 1035 horsepower, while the torque remains 900 Nm. The engine features new camshafts and a modified valve train with mechanical tappets. Moreover, the ‘K’ refers to KERS (kinetic energy recovery system) to maximize the track performance.
Other than the tuned-up powertrain, the FXX K also gets significant design changes. A twin-profile spoiler and a large splitter are added to the front that signifies Ferrari’s victorious GT program. Other trimmings to the exterior include two pairs of vertical elements, endplate, dive plane, vertical fins channel, a mobile spoiler in the rear and a small wing on each side of the tail.
The new FXX K is expected to roll out next year and would compete against its big rivals, the Porsche 918 Spyder and McLaren P1 GTR.
