In no particular order, here are 10 awful-looking cars that got our attention for all the wrong reasons…
Table of Contents
Nissan Cube
As the name suggests, ‘boxy’ is probably the most obvious adjective you’d use to describe this mini MPV, released in 1998. But, despite its unappealing looks, the Cube must be doing something right; it’s still going strong today and currently on its third generation.
Citroen Ami
Sixties monstrosity the Citroen Ami had totally removable seats (advertising material even showed them being used as picnic chairs). But this quirky feature was the only good decision the car’s designers made…

Subaru Tribeca
Many reviewers have described the look of this estate as awkward and dated. After a nine year, hit-and-miss sales record, it was finally announced that production of the Subaru will cease in 2014.
Pontiac Aztek
The Pontiac Aztek was voted the ugliest car ever made in a 2008 survey by The Telegraph. It clawed a bit of credibility back, though, when it was featured in Breaking Bad at Walter White’s car – one of the Aztecs used during filming was recently sold at auction for $7,800.
Ford Scorpio
Described by Jeremy Clarkson as a “wide-mouthed frog”, this executive car was in production from 1985 up until 1998. It wasn’t just its looks that counted against it, though – it also voted the third worst N-registered car in a Top Gear survey.

Nissan Juke
This bulbous-looking mini SUV has done very well in Japan, but it’s still gotten plenty of stick for its unconventional appearance, from its oddly prominent wheel arches to its bunched up front fenders.
Suzuki Wagon R
Tall with a short bonnet and almost vertical hatchback, the Suzuki Wagon R certainly stood out when it was launched back in 1995. Five generations and over five million units later, and it’s still as ugly as it ever was.

Renault Vel Satis
One of the most expensive cars ever built by Renault was also one of its biggest failures. The designer of the Renault Vel Satis claimed that he was aiming for the car to have physical presence rather than by classically elegant… CAR magazine called it “ugly and very French.”

Ford Anglia 105E
Some argue that the 1959-68 Ford Anglia 105E, with its especially long boot and comparatively short body, is a cute classic. But there are plenty of others who consider it an eyesore.

Fiat Multipla
This top heavy oddball was voted Ugliest Car of the Year by Top Gear in 1999; show guest Simon Cowell called it “a disease”. A 2004 facelift redeemed the car a little by toning down the more extreme design features.
