When talking about the cities in the world that have the worst traffic, most Americans seem to think that the US dominates the list. While cities like Los Angeles and Dallas have some pretty bad traffic, they don’t really rank among the top of the top in the world when it comes to the worst traffic. Dallas, it turns out is really only on the list when it comes to top locations for Texas title loans and little else when it comes to traffic. It’s possible the city also leads the world in the number of cars that have antlers on their hoods.

Jakarta
While there are a couple of different measurements when it comes to terrible traffic jams, it appears Jakarta is among the worst of the worst thanks to the number of people that are constantly stopping and starting on the streets and highways of Jakarta. One recent study shows that people who drive through Jakarta stop and start their cars more than 33,000 times per year. That’s a lot of stop and go traffic that only gets worse when you consider that Jakarta is a pretty packed city.
Mexico City
Speaking of cities that have a ton of people, who are all driving from one place to another, Mexico City is among the most packed. The city has a population of more than 20 million people. Rush hour traffic was what puts this city near the top of the list. When people drive in that rush hour, they tend to spend an extra 59 percent time in traffic. That means that drivers in Mexico City spent an extra 219 hours in traffic last year.
Bangkok
While Bangkok, Thailand has five million people less than Mexico City, the traffic might be a little bit worse. The uptick when it comes to rush hours in the city are a bit smaller than Mexico City, the amount of time people spend in traffic is a little bit bigger. People in this city tend to see more than 232 extra hours in traffic thanks to a massive amount of traffic. Part of the problem is that the city really didn’t see the explosion in traffic over the last few years. Now the place is trying to play catch up and it isn’t doing a very good job of playing catchup.
Istanbul
Even smaller than the other cities on this list, it has some of the same problems as Bangkok. That means that the city didn’t see the explosion in traffic coming and doesn’t have the ability to upgrade infrastructure as much as it needs to now. That means that the population of 13.3 million people tend to be stuck in traffic for an extra 178 hours during rush hours. The trend is only going upwards these days. Sooner or later, this city might be at the top of the list.
Rio De Janeiro
Brazil is having some real problems when it comes to infrastructure and making sure all of its citizens are well cared for. This is especially true when you are talking about the traffic in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Travel time during rush hours tends to increase by almost 50 percent. That leads to lost of time in traffic.
